Randall Michael Tobin in association with Concerts In Your Home presents Theta Sound Studio LIVE! — A chance to see amazing artists before they become the hottest ticket in town!
TSS Live! is your ticket to hearing top artists, many of them from outside of L.A., hand-picked by award-winning music producer Randall Michael Tobin just for this series. For a nominal donation (all of which goes to the artists), you get admission to Theta Sound Studio’s main room to experience two artists, each performing their own set in an intimate environment. Additionally, your donation entitles you to receive one CD from each artist! (see below for details)
Parking is free and refreshments will be served during intermission.
Seating in the main room is limited to 23 guests. But there are a few seats available in the control room where you can watch, listen, and see Randall Michael Tobin work his magic at the mixing console.
Our concert for March is going to be a real powder keg; a first for this format. We’ll feature two outstanding performers as we normally do, but both of them will be playing with each other (not pattycake, silly…) and alternating being the lead performer. Making this experiment even more volatile is the pair of performers chosen to light the fuse: Amy Engelhardt and Gary Stockdale! (read on if you dare…).

AMY ENGELHARDT
Amy Englehardt knows her rental cars. From 1998 to 2011, she toured everywhere from Los Angeles to Lichtenstein as the sole female voice (and a primary writer/arranger) in Grammy®-nominated vocal “band without instruments” The Bobs. Her brainchild, Rhapsody In Bob – Gershwin’s masterwork arranged for vocal orchestra (The Bobs) and blues-infused piano (Bob Malone of the John Fogerty Band) premiered at Wolf Trap. Amy also spearheaded A Comedy of Eras, the band’s theatrical collaboration with The Flying Karamazov Brothers, at Seattle’s ACT Theatre. Her favorite review: “Amy Engelhardt, the Bobs’ droll, dorky mezzo.”
Amy has received the Burman Award for Songwriting from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets (MAC), three Broadway World Cabaret Nominations for TWO BOBS, NO WAITING (double bill with Bob Malone), numerous ASCAP awards and four JPF Award nominations for her work with The Bobs and her solo album Not Gonna Be Pretty. Her work as a singer-songwriter has been likened to the “unlikely and intriguing marriage of Nellie McKay and Meat Loaf.”
Her first love, however was the theatre, and her cheeky score for the rock musical BASTARD JONES was a finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award for New Musicals, the Eugene O’Neill Music Theater Conference and the Alec Baldwin Fellowship (surely the strangest trifecta ever). A New York production is slated for 2016. Amy is also the lyricist/vocal arranger for musical adaptations of TESLA (with Everclear’s James Beaton, developed with a grant from the National Alliance for Musical Theatre), Carl Sagan’s CONTACT with Hungarian rocker Peter Sipos (2009 Puget Sound Theater Award – Best New Play), and NICHOLAS NICKLEBY with electric violinist Eyvind Kang. In 2014, she created TUNE IN TIME, NYC’s Musical Theater Game Show at the York Theatre, which critics call, “Musical theater, cerebral fun and games pushed to 11!”
Amy’s insanely diverse vocal credits include Danny Elfman’s Real Steel, Michael Giacchino’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jim Henson’s Animal Jam (Discovery Kids/TLC), Harry Shearer & Judith Owen’s Holiday Show (tour/Disney Concert Hall), Barbra Streisand’s Timeless, the Los Angeles Bach Festival, Neil Young’s Living With War, Comedy Central’s Roast of Roseanne and Paul Provenza’s SATIRISTAS. As a singer/songwriter, she’s performed extensively in LA and NY including shows at the Duplex, Uptown Cabaret Songwriters’ Spotlight, Tale and The Salon, Los Angeles Women in Music and Songwriters’ Square. Amy is the only honorary female member of the Vienna Boys Choir.

GARY STOCKDALE
Gary Stockdale is a singer-songwriter and two-time Emmy nominated TV composer based in Los Angeles. He composed for such shows as Sabrina, the Teenage Witch; To Tell the Truth; and Showtime’s Penn & Teller: BULLSHIT!
As a performer and singer, Gary was an original member of the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and was a soloist in the cult classic musical TV series Cop/Rock. He has also lent his voice to such films as Avatar, The Simpsons Movie, and TV’s The Family Guy. Gary is a frequent performer in SoCal comedy, spoken word, folk and acoustic clubs. For the 2013 Oscars, he backed up Adele on Skyfall. He was also an official showcase performer for the 2013 Folk Alliance West convention.
The Ventura County Star said Gary writes about “… the laughter, the pain and the sweet delights of being human. And he’s got the vocal chops to back up his words, too.”
CBS LA recently named Gary as one of the “Best Singer-Songwriters in Los Angeles.”
Suggested donation options: Single Guest: $20 (includes concert and one CD from each artist); Couple: $30 (includes concert for two and one CD from each artist).
