Randall Michael Tobin presents Theta Sound Studio LIVE! — A chance to see amazing artists before they become the hottest ticket in town!
TSS Live! is your ticket to hearing top artists, many of them from outside of L.A., hand-picked by award-winning music producer Randall Michael Tobin just for this series. For a nominal donation (all of which goes to the artists), you get admission to Theta Sound Studio’s main room to experience two artists, each performing their own set in an intimate environment. Additionally, your donation entitles you to receive one CD from each artist! (see below for details)
Parking is free and you may partake in the awesome food and drink that’s available before the concert and during intermission!
Seating in the main room is limited to 23 guests. But there are a few seats available in the control room where you can watch, listen, and see Randall Michael Tobin work his magic at the mixing console.
On Saturday, August 15th, TSS Live! is excited to present two artists who bring their unique styles and passion to our main room: Kira Hooks and Nathan & Jessie. Check out their bios below, then press the RSVP link at the end of the page to reserve your seats (before they’re all gone)!
KIRA HOOKS
Kira Hooks has no simple answer to where home is. She is Filipino-Caucasian, born in Houston, TX, and from the age of four, she was raised in Holland, Nigeria, Scotland, and China. She currently resides in Los Angeles and has been creating her musical journey with resilience and integrity. Home was never a physical place, which is why she cultivates her craft to allow a spiritual sense of home, along with nurturing family and friends. In one of her newer songs, Strong Enough, she confides, “I know that I am altered, doing all I could do… Noticing faults in our falter, I’m giving up less than the truth.”
Her playful, childlike spirit juxtaposes her musical and lyrical sophistication with a voice that has a “satisfying bottom end, a sonorous richness, a texture that one either has or one hasn’t.” (Michael Konik)
From the age of twelve, Kira has studied with various vocal and songwriting coaches. After attending the Berklee Five Week in 2009, she gained the inspiration to write original music like her peers. Eventually, she graduated from the L.A. College of Music in Pasadena in 2013 with an Associate of Arts Degree in Vocal Artist Development where she studied under greats such as, Tierney Sutton (Grammy nominee), Dorian Holley (Michael Jackson, Tonight Show), John Avila (Oingo Boingo), Kacee Clanton (Joe Cocker, Luis Miguel), Sara Leib (Jazz Vocalist), and many more. With a confident knowledge, Kira is able to manage a variety of settings, such as weddings, private parties, being a background vocalist, music festivals, intimate acoustic venues, and knowing how to share a stage with two or fourteen other people.
This summer, Kira is preparing for her transition to Nashville this August, where she plans to improve her craft and collaborate with new artists. You can keep up with Kira by signing up to her mailing list. Her music is currently available on Youtube, iTunes, Spotify, and Soundcloud.
NATHAN and JESSIE
When the stars align and musicians, Nathan Rivera and Jessie Andra Smith are in the same place at the same time, the duo is a sight to be seen and heard.
Originating from the Southern California area, both Nathan and Jessie grew up playing music and have made it their mission to take their show on the road. The duo is often joined by their talented musical friends, Shine Delphi, Karl Kummerle, and Trevor Mulvey, that you will see performing with them and hear on their albums.
The duo has traveled all over the world to Mexico and Europe playing music in the streets and stages of the old world. They performed their original gypsy blues music for Fête de la Musique and More Than Folk Festival in Paris, France, and Nathan also performed at the Festival de Blues in Barcelona, Spain.
Their musical style is a fusion of gypsy jazz and folk, and blues music all played on National Reso-Phonic guitars. Throw in an accordion and some harmonica and this duo creates a unique musical experience.
Nathan’s eclectic accordion and virtuoso guitar improvisation along with Jessie’s jazzy sweet vocals and rhythm guitar make for a unique style of gypsy blues/folk music that tell their stories of life, love and travel.
Suggested donation options: Single Guest: $20 (includes concert and one CD from each artist); Couple: $30 (includes concert for two and one CD from each artist).
